First post about the first kiss

June 19, 2011

Hi. My name is Virginia Sanders. I turned 30 just a couple months ago. I haven’t had my first kiss yet.

Whew. There, I said it.

I intended to have that little detail of my life accomplished a while ago. Many years went by without much concern over it. For the past couple of years, though, I’ve said to myself, “Okay, before my next birthday, I’m getting that kiss no matter what.” Obviously my resolve wasn’t strong enough, because it didn’t happen.

So, what should I do? A conventional route of “find an opportunity and kiss a guy” doesn’t seem to be working for me all that well. I need to create an opportunity.

Then I had the idea of auctioning off my first kiss and giving the proceeds to charity. The idea wouldn’t leave me alone. It got stuck in my brain, and I couldn’t shake it. I know people have auctioned off all sorts of unusual items on eBay, so why couldn’t I do this? The answer is that I can do this.

Welcome to my blog, Kiss Chronicles, which I’ll be using to tell the story of one very small, very belated kiss that is going to happen sometime in the future. I have some fun and funny posts planned for this blog. I have a Kiss Chronicles FaceBook page, too.

I haven’t contacted the charity or set up the auction yet. That’s a vital step in the plan, but first I need to get this blog going, get some word out, and hopefully generate a little interest.

Meanwhile, I have some predictions for this project:

  • I will laugh frequently. That would have happened anyway, even without this wild idea, but the idea will lead to a greater number of belly laughs than usual.
  • I will be asked awkward and/or creepy questions.
  • I might get called a liar (not by my friends, but by people who don’t know me).
  • Someone might lie and say he kissed me. Haha, good one.
  • My name will be mocked. I see that one coming a mile away. 😉
  • The situation will evoke Never Been Kissed movie comparisons. I watched the movie (most of it), and I’m positive that my experiences through this blog and project will be more interesting.
  • The unexpected will happen because of this. I have no idea what the unexpected things that are going to happen will be. That’s why they’re unexpected. But I can say I saw them coming. Sort of.

As a side note, yesterday I had Chinese takeout for dinner. Inside my fortune cookie was the message “Good things are coming to you in due course of time.” WOW. Go ahead, let that irony sink in. I’m taping this little sucker of a fortune to my laptop lid until this project is complete and I have that kiss.

Special thank you to Rachael Thomas (of Rachael Thomas Designs) for being the moral and technical support I needed to get this mission moving.

As a random (slightly, considering I know Rachael) and curious male, I’m excited to see the laughs that could come of this, and the adventure you’ll have. I’ll be reading, and wish you luck.

Oh good! See, if there aren’t any random and curious males that stumble on this, the whole mission is going to fubar, so I’m glad it caught your interest. Thanks for the well wishes, and I’ll see what I can do about sharing some laughs along the journey.

I can’t wait to see this thing off the ground for real! You have guts, girl!

This is awesome indeed! I love it and I love you Virginia! What a gutsy gal you are = clap, clap, clap!!! 🙂 ❤

🙂 Thanks so much, Mary. I’m really amazed by all the support you and others have shown so quickly!

This is a pretty gutsy project, but interesting!

I’m 32 myself and haven’t had my first kiss yet. So hey, one can live at least until they’re 32 without it, right? It doesn’t bother me that much, really. I won’t be bidding, but I’ll be following your blog posts.

Hi, Roger! Wow! Thank you for telling me.

You’re right, one can definitely reach 32 without a kiss. I’m pretty sure I would have, as well, if I hadn’t started this project. It does bother me that I’ve never been kissed, though I should never have let it get to me.

Your self confidence is wonderful, and you definitely have me beat on that. May it pay off with a great kiss for you sometime in the future!

        gRegor, not Roger. 🙂

And I’m not always that self-confident, haha. I just have to hold onto hope.

gRegor, hello, I’m Virginia, and I like to read too fast and transpose letters. *headdesk* I’m sorry.

My hope had sort of petered out, but it’s coming back to me now. 🙂

Good luck! This was posted on Reddit charity, so you may get some traffic from that. Good luck raising a bit of moolah for whatever charity you decide to support!

Thank you so much for the Reddit post! It looks like I received a few more FB Likes because of it. 😀
